The Mizen Head Signal Station was established in 1909 as a means to prevent shipwrecks along the treacherous stretch of the Irish coast known as the Mizen Peninsula. The station was equipped with a powerful fog signal and a light to guide ships safely around the peninsula. Over the years, the station played a crucial role in maritime safety.
